Sailboat charter

What is a skippered sailboat charter?

A skippered charter is one where navigation and boat handling are carried out by a skipper assigned as part of the service. Guests enjoy their holiday within the agreed programme and terms.

What is a bareboat sailboat charter?

On a bareboat charter, the charterer takes charge of the boat, provided they meet the required qualifications and experience. Certificate, experience and acceptance requirements may vary with the boat and regulations.

Which option should a first-time charterer choose?

For people with no boat-handling experience, a skippered charter is usually the better place to start. It is a chance to get to know life on a sailboat and get used to time at sea.

Why do sailboat charter prices vary?

Boat model, length, capacity, season, charter length, scope of service and which costs are included all affect the price. An exact price needs a quote for a specific boat and dates.

Which costs should I ask about?

Besides the charter fee, ask about the skipper, fuel, harbour and marina fees, cleaning, provisioning, the deposit and any extra services. Check in the contract whether each item is included.

How many days should a sailing holiday be?

It depends on the area, the route, the number of stops and what you want from the holiday. A short coastal trip and a passage covering several harbours need different time plans.

Can I set my own route on a sailing holiday?

It depends on the type of charter and the contract. On a bareboat charter the charterer runs the passage plan; on a skippered charter the route follows the skipper's safety assessment and agreement between the parties.

What should I ask about insurance and safety?

Ask about the boat's insurance cover, safety equipment, emergency procedures, liability for damage and the deposit terms. Review the cover and its exclusions in writing.

Boat delivery

What is the difference between a boat delivery and a charter?

A charter is a service for using a boat for a set period. A boat delivery is the planned passage and handover that takes a boat from its current location to a chosen destination port.

What should I do to move my sailboat to another port?

Decide the boat's model, length, current location, destination port and preferred date, then send a delivery request. The boat's condition, route, weather and operational requirements will be assessed.

Do I have to own the boat to request a delivery?

Ownership alone isn't always sufficient or required. The person making the request must be authorised to act for the boat and hold the necessary permissions. Authority and documents are verified before the delivery.

Who is on board during the delivery?

That depends on the type of boat, the scope of the delivery and the operating plan. The skipper and crew arrangement is set out when the quote is prepared.

Who pays for fuel and harbour fees during a delivery?

It depends on the delivery agreement. The quote should clearly state the scope of fuel, harbour fees, crew costs, accommodation and other operating expenses.

What information is needed for a boat delivery?

Boat model, type, length, technical condition, departure and arrival ports, preferred date and any special requests are the basics for a first assessment.

Can I get an exact delivery price online?

Usually not without the boat and route details. Even two deliveries over the same distance can cost differently because of the boat, fuel needs, crew and operating conditions.

Do deliveries go ahead in bad weather?

If the passage isn't safe, the delivery may be postponed or rerouted. The decision considers weather and sea conditions, the boat's limits and crew safety.

How does the handover work?

Handover follows the parties' agreement. The boat's condition, handover port, keys, documents, any damage records and the handover time should be agreed in advance.

International boat delivery

Can a sailboat be delivered from Croatia to Turkey?

Yes, with a suitable boat, route, weather and sea conditions, crew ability and the official formalities in place. Departure and arrival ports, border procedures and documents must be assessed in advance. Availability of the service is confirmed separately.

How long does a sailboat delivery from Split to Fethiye take?

It depends on the route, the boat's real speed, the weather, fuel or resupply stops and port formalities. A firm estimate needs the boat details and the planned route.

Are customs formalities needed for an international delivery?

Depending on the route, the boat's flag and legal status, entry, exit, customs and other official formalities may apply. Check the current rules of the countries and the port procedures in advance.

Which documents should be prepared for an international delivery?

Boat registration, documents showing flag and ownership or authority to use the boat, crew travel documents and other papers depending on the route may be needed. The exact list must be verified for the boat and countries involved.

Routes and seamanship

Are Fethiye and Göcek good for a sailing holiday?

Fethiye and Göcek are popular cruising areas with many bays and coastal stops. The right route depends on the season, weather, the boat and your experience.

What should I consider when planning a Kaş and Kekova route?

Passage distance, weather, anchorages, protected areas and local rules. Some areas restrict activities or anchoring; check the current regulations.

How do you check the weather before sailing?

Review current marine forecasts, wind direction and strength, waves, visibility and official warnings to mariners. Don't base the decision on a single app.

Why does a passage plan matter on a sailboat?

A passage plan sets out the route, estimated times, stops, weather and alternatives in advance. It should be updated as conditions change, with safety first.

Do I need experience to go sailing?

The experience and qualifications needed to run a boat depend on the boat and the regulations. People without experience can choose a suitable skippered option.

When deciding

How should I choose a boat delivery company?

Choose a provider that can assess the boat and the route, states the scope of service clearly, explains qualifications and insurance, and gives a written quote and handover terms. Check documents and references.

What should I ask when getting a delivery quote?

Ask what's included, the crew arrangement, fuel and harbour costs, estimated duration, weather-related changes, insurance cover, handover terms and the cancellation procedure.

Is a skippered charter or a boat delivery right for me?

If you want a holiday at sea using a boat for a set period, choose a charter; if you want your own boat moved from one port to another, a delivery service fits better.

How is the right time for a delivery decided?

The boat's readiness, the target date, the route, seasonal weather and port formalities are considered together. The exact departure follows current conditions and the operating plan.

What can Peace & Sails help me with?
